Statement of Need

The advantages of providing a meningococcal booster utilizing the improved conjugate technology formulation will be explained.  Similarly, the disease burden and benefits derived from acellular pertussis vaccine boosters to teenagers and adults will provide the audience with an understanding for recommended universal use.
 

Course Description

The rationale and recommendations for use for newly licensed vaccines will be reviewed to include the new meningococcal conjugate vaccines and the new tetinus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis vaccine for adolescents.  Also, vaccines with anticipated FDA approval will be discussed.

      Educational Objectives:

  • Recognize the value of and reasoning behind endorsement of use of meningococcal conjugate vaccines.
  • Define the need for pertussis booster vaccinations of adolescents & adults in the U.S.
  • Know the national recommendations regarding use of meningococcal & pertussis vaccines in the U.S.
  • Identify risk factors in acquiring HPV infection
