Course Description: Penicillin Failure in Streptococcal Pharyngitis

These webinars are FREE CME programs hosted via the internet. Participants view a live 45 minute interactive PowerPoint presentation led by Dr. Michael E. Pichichero, University of Rochester, NY.  A 15 minute Q&A session will follow the lecture.

This case-based presentation will use interactive audience response questions to promote viewer participation and intensify the learning experience.  The program is intended for primary care physicians, pediatricians and other specialists who care for children with acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis.

Educational Objectives

  • Determine the anticipated failure rate with penicillin therapy for streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis and why rates are rising.
  • Identify the anticipated cure rate of cephalosporin antibiotics for treatment of streptococcal throat infections and the results of shortened courses of therapy.
  • Understand the impact of bacterial resistance on cure rates.
